Station Cove Falls

Today’s blog is about Station Cove Falls, a 60-foot waterfall in Oconee County, South Carolina. The shape is described as a “high cascade,” but I describe it as being like a big rock wall with little ribbons of water all over it. This is one of my favorite trails in South Carolina and my #1 place I recommend if you want a waterfall.

This is one of my favorite trails in South Carolina, and it fits my 5 requirements to use it for photos:

  1. You can safely take a lot of different pictures with the main attraction. It’s not a tiny platform where you can view the waterfall from a weird angle. You can walk right up to it, stick your hand in the stream of water, and get different angles of it.

  2. It’s an easy trail, so it’s less likely that the couple would be sweaty or exhausted in their photos. It’s also less likely that you would get injured or sick and have to leave before you get to the good part.

  3. It’s a short trail, so we can plan to be at the falls when the lighting is optimal and still be off the trail by dark. If you can park at the trailhead, it’s about 20 minutes or .75 miles to the falls. If you park at the Oconee Station State Historic Site parking lot, where there’s more parking and a bathroom, this adds about .4 miles and 8 minutes.

  4. It’s not too crowded, especially on weekdays. Read more here on avoiding crowds.

  5. There’s enough of a variety of pictures we could take here—it’s not just three hours of hiking with one spot that’s pretty.

If you park at Oconee Station, a little farther away, you’ll start off by a historic house and a little pond, but I’d rather just park at the trailhead if there’s enough space and get more time with the falls. I don’t normally see people there in the evenings or on weekdays.

Station Cove Falls is about 25 minutes from Ram Cat Alley in downtown Seneca and about 15 minutes from downtown Walhalla. It’s also about 25 minutes from one of my other favorite spots in Oconee County, Stumphouse Tunnel, pictured below.

If you want a beautiful waterfall elopement in South Carolina, this is your place, and I’m happy to come with you. If you’re still looking for a photographer, read more about my elopement and engagement photography services!

Ready for the best day ever?

My name is Christine (Scott) Gow and I’m an elopement photographer based out of Greenville, South Carolina. I’m a wife and a beagle mom. The three of us have visited beautiful places in every corner of South Carolina, to include all 48 of our state parks. We love finding new outdoor places to visit, but we also love hanging out on the couch and watching Pixar movies.

One thing I love about South Carolina is that it’s not just the beaches and colorful houses that you imagine when you picture it. Whether you’re looking for mountains, beaches, or anything in between; I can help you find the perfect place for the two of you and make it as smooth of a day as possible. No matter how you two choose to spend your day, I’m happy you’re doing it the way that you want.

I can’t wait to meet you!
