South Carolina Waterfall Engagement | Maggie & Stephen

Maggie and Stephen were headed to Seneca for his company’s holiday party at a nice restaurant. Or at least that’s what Maggie thought.

When they got into Oconee County, Stephen asked Maggie if she wanted to stop at Issaqueena Falls, and she said yes. This is a place where they spent time together at the beginning of their relationship, so it’s worth visiting again. It was so rainy and foggy that day that it was hard to see the road. It had stopped raining, but it started again when they got out of the car at the parking lot for Issaqueena. They walked down to the overlook in the rain and looked at the waterfall through the fog. Since I was the only person at the overlook, Stephen asked me to take a photo on his phone. I did, and then I took some photos on my camera when he got down on one knee. The kiss in the rain was like a movie! I can’t get over how beautiful the ring is—it looks like a 1920s engagement ring and is super unique!

Luckily, I keep two clear umbrellas in my car, and a smaller one in my camera bag to protect my camera. The waterfall is kind of below the overlook, so it’s hard to get the waterfall AND the people on the overlook in the frame. We decided not to scramble down to the falls since it would be slippery and uneven. The wonderful thing about rainy days is that people tend to not be outside in the rain, so we had the whole place to ourselves! We took some photos around the overlook with the umbrellas before going over to Stumphouse Tunnel. Fun fact: this is where Clemson blue cheese was originally made, and the tunnel pretty much stays at the same temperature all the time. No bat sightings this time, but the photos we got with the super dark tunnel were really fun!
