Bald Rock Heritage Preserve

Let’s talk about engagement and elopement photos at Bald Rock Heritage Preserve!

Bald Rock is an overlook that’s right off of Highway 276 in northern Greenville County, about 7 minutes past Wildcat Wayside, 15 minutes before Caesars Head State Park, and 30 minutes from Pretty Place Chapel.  This is an open area where you can see the sun rise from one side and the sun set from the other side over Table Rock Mountain.

The view of Table Rock Mountain is similar to the view from Caesars Head, but there are a few key differences.  One is that Caesars Head has a small overlook with a gate, while Bald Rock is open with more space for you to avoid having people in your photos (more on that here).  The other is that Bald Rock has a view of the sun over the mountains at both sunrise and sunset, while Caesars Head doesn’t open until after sunrise.

This is a popular place for graffiti, so let me just put it out there right now that you will not put anything permanent on this mountain on my watch. There are regular cleanups to remove the graffiti, but we don’t always know when those are and can’t plan around them.  I can position you in a place where there isn’t as much of it, but some of it can be edited out with the sponge tool in Photoshop, which desaturates the color to the point where it blends in with the rest of the rock face.

I sometimes use Bald Rock as a secondary location after a sunrise at Pretty Place, since Pretty Place tends to be crowded and Bald Rock has a wider view of the landscape. You can also go to Wildcat Wayside after going to Bald Rock at sunrise, or before coming to Bald Rock at sunset.

Things to plan for with Bald Rock:

  • Parking is limited, so plan accordingly.  You can pick a different location along the highway if there isn’t space.

  • There is no bathroom.  Caesars Head is about 15 minutes away and has a bathroom that’s available during visitation hours.

  • You will need to go uphill for a minute to see the view at all, so you might want to pick a different place if you’re not able to walk uphill.

Ready for the best day ever?

My name is Christine (Scott) Gow and I’m an elopement photographer based out of Greenville, South Carolina. I’m a wife and a beagle mom. The three of us have visited beautiful places in every corner of South Carolina, to include all 48 of our state parks. We love finding new outdoor places to visit, but we also love hanging out on the couch and watching Pixar movies.

One thing I love about South Carolina is that it’s not just the beaches and colorful houses that you imagine when you picture it. Whether you’re looking for mountains, beaches, or anything in between; I can help you find the perfect place for the two of you and make it as smooth of a day as possible. No matter how you two choose to spend your day, I’m happy you’re doing it the way that you want.

I can’t wait to meet you!
