Dan proposed to Ashleigh at Pretty Place Chapel, in the mountains of South Carolina, on a beautiful morning in September.
Ashleigh unexpectedly had to travel to Columbia for work, which is close to where Dan is. Ashleigh had seen pictures of Pretty Place and knew it was close to where Dan grew up, so she mentioned that she wanted to see it next time they were in the area. They made a trip to Pretty Place for sunrise a few days later, which was Ashleigh’s birthday. Ashleigh said she suspected he might propose on her birthday because Dan asked her to be his girlfriend on his birthday a few years earlier. Even though the forecast looked pretty dreary leading up to that day, it ended up being a sunny morning. Ashleigh and Dan asked someone to take a photo of them on their phone in front of the cross. Dan asked if they could take another one with them facing the mountains, and then he used that as a distraction so he could get the ring out of his pocket. He used the diamond from his mom’s ring to fit into a design that Ashleigh liked.
Since it was a Monday, there weren’t a lot of people in the chapel for sunrise this time. Everyone in the chapel that day was super supportive and quiet, and they congratulated Ashleigh and Dan. Once the sun was up, most people cleared out of the chapel, so we almost had it all to ourselves! We were able to take some wider photos in the chapel than we could on a normal day. Afterwards, we headed down to Bald Rock Heritage Preserve, where we had a beautiful view of Table Rock and some of the other hills around it. We also saw some of the first fall color in the woods at Bald Rock. We finished their photos at Wildcat Wayside, with the two waterfalls closest to the road.
