South Carolina Elopement at Ballenger Bridge

What would a non-traditional elopement near Greenville, SC look like?  Check out our photos from this styled shoot at Ballenger Bridge!

Ballenger Bridge is a venue in Landrum, SC with tons of beautiful scenery.  There’s a red covered bridge over a creek, a pond, a gazebo, a pavilion, a swing–you name it!  This is one of the only wedding venues in South Carolina with mountains–there’s a beautiful view of Glassy Mountain!  You’ll have plenty of options for scenery, whether you’re having a huge wedding or it’s just the two of you.

When I met with Jen, the owner of Ballenger Bridge, we talked about doing something totally non-traditional for a styled shoot.  I immediately thought to use Meg and Edwin as our couple.  I met them through a Star Wars cosplay shoot earlier this year and followed them on Instagram, where I saw all the incredible outfits and costumes that Meg makes herself.  One of them was her super unique and colorful wedding dress, which was inspired by the wedding dress in the live-action Cinderella movie.  She had some help with the bodice, and she made the rest herself.  Meg also made the outfits that she and Edwin wore towards the end of the shoot–Edwin’s was inspired by Star Wars costumes, and Meg’s dress was inspired by Adora’s wedding dress from She-Ra: Princess of Power.  We also used their lightsabers with both outfits.

The cosplay event where I originally met Meg and Edwin was organized by my friend Eric, who is a multi-talented wedding vendor himself.  For this shoot, Eric acted as our officiant, but he is also a wedding coordinator and a DJ.

When I talked with Meg about the styled shoot, I asked what kind of desserts she and Edwin like.  She said they considered having a cheesecake for their own wedding, and I liked that idea.  I reached out to First Love Cheesecakery and said we were open to whatever flavors were convenient for them that day.  Rickie asked me what their colors were to help him decide what cheesecake we should have, so I sent him a screenshot of Meg’s dress and said we’d be open to any of the colors in it.  He recommended the lemon blueberry cheesecake, which was beautiful and loved by everyone who ate it.  I’m also just really excited about the fact that there was a cheesecake that coordinated with a wedding dress.

After we finished taking pictures at Ballenger Bridge, we went down to The Hare and Hound, an Irish-inspired restaurant in downtown Landrum.  Meg and I had bonded over our love for Irish things, so we had fun talking about the menu, the Irish language, and our memories of Ireland and the UK.

Ready for the best day ever?

My name is Christine (Scott) Gow and I’m an elopement photographer based out of Greenville, South Carolina. I’m a wife and a beagle mom. The three of us have visited beautiful places in every corner of South Carolina, to include all 48 of our state parks. We love finding new outdoor places to visit, but we also love hanging out on the couch and watching Pixar movies.

One thing I love about South Carolina is that it’s not just the beaches and colorful houses that you imagine when you picture it. Whether you’re looking for mountains, beaches, or anything in between; I can help you find the perfect place for the two of you and make it as smooth of a day as possible. No matter how you two choose to spend your day, I’m happy you’re doing it the way that you want.

I can’t wait to meet you!
