Kirsten and Andrew were married on Lake Jocassee on a summer day with their immediate family there to celebrate with them.
They made a weeklong trip with their families and the wedding took place about halfway through. Kirsten and Andrew stayed in a boat-in campsite and the rest of the family stayed in three of the villas at Devils Fork State Park. I talked with the park manager at Devils Fork to coordinate where and when the wedding ceremony would take place. He helped me find a spot that was easy for them to get to, but less likely to have people coming in and out. Since this wedding was in August, there were plenty of families vacationing there, so finding this spot ended up being a great call. There was a rock for Kirsten and Andrew to stand on during the ceremony, but there was also plenty of space along the beach for the family, since the water level was pretty low. Once the wedding itself was over, we went back to the main beach area to take some couple portraits. Kirsten said that when she sat on the dock with her feet in the water, a bluegill swam up to nibble her toe, which she thought was a perfectly fitting thing to happen to her on her wedding day.
The whole family was part of the planning process for this wedding. They worked together to catch and fry the catfish they had for dinner that night. Kirsten’s sisters bought each flower from a flower farm and put her bouquet together. Andrew’s sister, Kacie, did Kirsten’s hair and makeup. Every single one of them was so easy-going and welcoming. The wedding cake fell apart in transit from Summerville, but they were still really excited to share it together.
