Halloween Elopements in Upstate South Carolina

Are you looking for somewhere to elope in South Carolina on Halloween? Or maybe you want to take photos in October and want spooky season vibes? Here are my favorite places that will get you in the October mood, even if it’s not October.

This list does not contain cemeteries or old buildings, but I still think you’ll like what you see. All of these places would be even better on a cloudy day—read more about that here.

I’m still available on Halloween of 2026! If you’re still looking for a photographer, read more about my elopement and engagement photography services!

Stumphouse Tunnel (Oconee County)

This train tunnel project was abandoned partway through, leaving a cave in the mountain. I can’t think of anywhere darker around here or anywhere more fitting for spooky season. Outside of spooky season, it basically looks the same all year, and the temperature inside stays right around 50 degrees. Read more about Stumphouse Tunnel!

Poinsett Bridge (Greenville County)

This is the oldest bridge in all of South Carolina, and plenty of people have reported paranormal activity here. The shady spot in the woods and the old Gothic stonework make it a beautiful spot, especially for someone who wants spooky vibes. This is under construction through April of 2026.

Downtown Greenville

Tucked away in Falls Park is a little corner called the Carolina Foothills Garden Club Sanctuary. It’s in a shady part of the park with stonework and ivy, giving old and eerie vibes. If you go up the steps, you’ll find the Medusa tree, which lives up to its name! Read more about where to elope and where to take engagement photos in downtown Greenville.

Paris Mountain State Park (Greenville)

You won’t really see mountains here, but you’ll see some of the best foliage we get in the upstate. The foliage at Paris Mountain peaks right around Halloween, making it a great spot for people who love Halloween, but don’t necessarily want the creepy vibes. This is about 15 minutes from downtown Greenville, so you can pair these two locations together to get the best combination of foliage and ivy-covered stone architecture. South Carolina Botanical Gardens (Clemson)

This is the best place to guarantee fall color since there is such a wide variety of trees here that change at different times in the fall. However, there are a few spots that a few people don’t know about. One is an old-looking stone staircase behind the duck pond, and the other is the Jurassic Garden near the geology museum. The Jurassic Garden has a replica of a dinosaur ribcage covered in ivy, which would make a great wedding arbor for people who are into that, and some of the plants they believe were in South Carolina during the Jurassic era. Those plants look their best in the summer, so if you can’t be here around Halloween, this is a great spot. Read more about the South Carolina Botanical Gardens!

Ready for the best day ever?

My name is Christine (Scott) Gow and I’m an elopement photographer based out of Greenville, South Carolina. I’m a wife and a beagle mom. The three of us have visited beautiful places in every corner of South Carolina, to include all 48 of our state parks. We love finding new outdoor places to visit, but we also love hanging out on the couch and watching Pixar movies.

One thing I love about South Carolina is that it’s not just the beaches and colorful houses that you imagine when you picture it. Whether you’re looking for mountains, beaches, or anything in between; I can help you find the perfect place for the two of you and make it as smooth of a day as possible. No matter how you two choose to spend your day, I’m happy you’re doing it the way that you want.

I can’t wait to meet you!
