Sunset, lightning, fireflies, and mountains made for the coolest summer night for Jake and Linzi!
Jake took Linzi on a surprise trip for her birthday week. She knew they were going to South Carolina, but not the coast. She had no idea what was on this side of the state. It turned out that she had sent Jake a picture of a “pretty place” a while back without knowing what it was called or where it was, but Jake found it and planned a trip around it to propose!
It was storming on the drive up to the chapel, but we could still see the mountains when we got there. There was some low thunder and some lightning off in the distance. Jake asked me if I could take a photo on his phone of him and Linzi, so I put them in the best lighting next to the cross and took a photo. Then he got down on one knee, just like we planned. The rain kept most people out, so only a few people were there to see it happen.
After we took some photos around the chapel, including a few in the rain with umbrellas, they agreed to stop by Caesars Head, one of my favorite places, since they would pass right by it on their way home. Linzi immediately said it was one of the most beautiful places she’s ever seen, and she and Jake both said they liked it more than Pretty Place, the place the whole trip was planned around. Even though it wasn’t raining by the time we got to Caesars Head, the lightning in the distance was insane, and we even got a couple photos of them with a bolt behind them. We only saw two people for a few minutes, but we had the overlook to ourselves for the rest of the time we were there, soaking up the views with the quiet after the storm. The sunset 100% delivered, and the colors just kept getting better and better. We stayed there right until 9:00, when the park closes, and even saw a few fireflies as we came through the woods.
Enjoy some of my favorite photos from this magical night in the South Carolina mountains with Linzi and Jake!

Ready for the best day ever?
My name is Christine (Scott) Gow and I’m an elopement photographer based out of Greenville, South Carolina. I’m a wife and a beagle mom. The three of us have visited beautiful places in every corner of South Carolina, to include all 48 of our state parks. We love finding new outdoor places to visit, but we also love hanging out on the couch and watching Pixar movies.
One thing I love about South Carolina is that it’s not just the beaches and colorful houses that you imagine when you picture it. Whether you’re looking for mountains, beaches, or anything in between; I can help you find the perfect place for the two of you and make it as smooth of a day as possible. No matter how you two choose to spend your day, I’m happy you’re doing it the way that you want.
I can’t wait to meet you!
