I was so excited to be part of Pruthvi and Suniti’s engagement at Chimney Rock State Park. This was my first time there since Hurricane Helene, almost exactly one year earlier.
Pruthvi and Suniti live in North Carolina and love taking weekend trips to the mountains each fall. They had plans to meet up with some friends and go to a vineyard while they were there. Pruthvi had been to Chimney Rock a few years ago and knew it would be the perfect place to propose to Suniti, between the view and the fact that they go to the mountains together every year.
I was the first car at the park when the gate opened, so I got into the elevator as fast as I could to give myself time to get there before Pruthvi and Suniti. Having the overlook to myself for a few minutes is always amazing, but especially after missing it for so long. The forecast was looking a little sketchy—it said right before I left that the cloud ceiling would be 400 feet, and the Chimney Rock overlook is 2280. I drove through some rain and fog before I got into the park, where it was bright and sunny with little clouds down below.
I took some photos of the view until Pruthvi got to the right spot and proposed. Suniti was so caught off guard that she couldn’t even remember later whether she said yes. Within a few minutes, she was talking about how excited she was to finally start planning a wedding, how she never wanted to take the ring off, and how they would someday take their kids back to this spot. She said she had to tell everyone she saw that they just got engaged, and one person we saw gave her a hug.
We didn’t see a single person at the overlook the whole time we were up there. We even got to spend a little more time in the tunnel than I normally do since nobody was walking through there. We couldn’t believe how beautiful of a day it was for their engagement and how perfectly everything went!

Ready for the best day ever?
My name is Christine (Scott) Gow and I’m an elopement photographer based out of Greenville, South Carolina. I’m a wife and a beagle mom. The three of us have visited beautiful places in every corner of South Carolina, to include all 48 of our state parks. We love finding new outdoor places to visit, but we also love hanging out on the couch and watching Pixar movies.
One thing I love about South Carolina is that it’s not just the beaches and colorful houses that you imagine when you picture it. Whether you’re looking for mountains, beaches, or anything in between; I can help you find the perfect place for the two of you and make it as smooth of a day as possible. No matter how you two choose to spend your day, I’m happy you’re doing it the way that you want.
I can’t wait to meet you!
